    The Ria Formosa plays an important role in the lives of the inhabitants of Faro, Olhão, and Tavira. Over 170 square kilometers has been designated as a natural park and ensures a nice influx of tourists. Outside the protected areas you will find other activities such as seafood farms.
    The trips can range anywhere from a few hours to a full day. A typical journey will include cruising the Ria Formosa channels with stops at some of the islands. Make sure to bring your swimsuits as there usually is time for a refreshing dip as well. Book your tour around sunset to see the lagoon come alive with birds.
    Because it’s so easy to reach from Faro, it’s the most crowded beach in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. It’s also the most developed, with villas, restaurants and cafés. Follow the boardwalk to the east for the undeveloped, uncrowded and much more pleasant and attractive side of the beach.
